Got Debt? Get Motivated!

Many Americans have been living with substantial debt and can’t seem to eliminate it on their own. As long as they don’t have creditors calling, they’ve accepted their “burden” in life. They believe, in the long run, it doesn’t really matter; they can still pay their mortgage, car payments, monthly bills, and make the minimum payments on their credit cards.  If you’re in this situation, it’s time to take a really close look at the impact it can have on your life now and in the future.

·        Steals your time away—any energy you put into your job and money you earn is paying for goods that are already consumed. Nothing is for the present time or going towards your future. As you pay down your mortgage, equity may be lost due to debt.

·        Causes stress—nickel and diming yourself to death gets really old. The frustration of always having money on your mind is exhausting. You may be used to it, but know that it doesn’t have to be that way.

·        Causes you to pay more— in the form of higher interest rates for home and auto loans. You may not think it matters, but when your house payment could be hundreds of dollars less each month, it is significant.

·        Slows advancement towards productive financial goals—whatever you have planned for your future, it will be postponed, if it happens at all. Retirement planning is crucial.

·        Leaves you unprepared for emergencies—if you or your family has a medical crisis, or you lose your job, you won’t have the financial ability to ride out the storm. Your financial situation can and will get worse.

·        Limits your choices—whether you’re young or not so young, your options will be compromised. You just might have to drive your car until the bumper is falling off, or continue renting when most of your friends are buying their first home.
